Capital Markets Financial Analyst

Schedule Hours: 8:30 am-5 pm Monday-Friday (37.5 hrs/week) – OT possibly on peak periods

Candidate Value Proposition:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a large project within the bank. There would be opportunity to network and work with various technology, finance, and operations team as well senior management. The candidate will be working on a highly visibility project.

Typical Day in Role:

The Incumbent will play a key role in the maintenance of an efficient and risk-effective control environment for Group Treasury Product Control. The incumbent will be responsible for:
1. Produce and report daily P&L. Confirmation of P&L integrity/ validation through risk-based attribution. Reconciliation of daily P&L to FO expectations with corresponding P&L explanation to ensure P&L Sign-off by the Front Office. Coordination and resolution of P&L breaks between FO and Product Control through collaborative dialogue.
2. Ensuring daily reported P&L is reconciled to the Bank’s General Ledger and associated source system sub ledgers. Adoption of a proactive approach to ensure breaks are escalated and resolved on a timely basis as required by established workflows. Ensuring balance sheet accounts are substantiated and that all accounting issues are resolved on a timely basis. Orchestrate and complete the Month-End Close Sign-off and MIS Package.
3. Strong understanding of risk analytics to develop and implement infrastructure processes aimed at effectively capturing and reflecting risk profile of business.
4. Production, Review and Analysis of IPV, Reserves and Fair Value Adjustments as may be required in agreement with Risk Management and as required by Bank Guidelines. The coordination and timely resolution of Issues with the Front and Back Offices, and Risk Management.

5. Supporting other financial reporting needs as may be required.

The incumbent will support the Manager and Senior Manager in establishing support for new products/business in a controlled manner and actively engage in requests for support, analysis and information from various constituents including the Front Office, Risk Management, Operations, Finance, Audit and Regulators.

Candidate Requirements/Must-Have Skills:
• 8-10 years of hands-on experience in Product Control (alternatively, Middle Office, Product Control, Finance or Operations) supporting a Capital Markets environment and/or equivalent experience from undergraduate/graduate or other related studies
• 5+ of experience with P&L construction and risk attribution, capital markets accounting, and balance sheet substantiation.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• A CFA or FRM will also be an asset.
• SQL, VBA, and Python coding experience would be a very significant plus (data extraction, manipulation, normalization, etc.)

Soft Skills Required:
• Fluent English-language verbal and written communications: the ability to distill complex and ambiguous operational processes, business requirements/rules and data sets into process flows and analysis, concisely convey technical requirements and requests, prepare and edit high-quality documentation, be accepted as a trusted advisor by peers and the ability to interact with a demanding Front-Office client base.
• Able to work remotely and on-site on multiple activities simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency with Excel.
• The incumbent must have leadership ability, be self-motivated and be able to operate in a backup capacity to the Manager

Best VS. Average Candidate:
The Best candidate is someone with all the must-have skills plus the VBA, SQL, and Python coding experience.

Education & Certificates:
• Expert knowledge of P&L and Balance Sheet control backed by a Business Degree focused on Finance and Accounting and/ or Risk Analytics. A professional accounting designation is preferred.

1 – Hiring manager – Senior manager – 45 minutes for behavioral questions, get-to-know and technical test if the candidate selected has experience with VBA, SQL, and Python coding experience.
