Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned, talented Senior UX Designer to join our User Experience Design team as we develop an exciting large-scale web project. As the UX lead for the initiative, you will be working with a cross-functional team to deliver a highly effective, well-crafted and evidence-based digital experience. You will be able to synthesize business requirements, research and design principles into an elegant interface, working on different aspects and deliverables of the project as it progresses. You will need to be able to identify and solve problems; explore different design solutions and articulate for the user in each solution; and present to and collaborate with a wide range of project team members and stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities:
– Work with Product, Marketing, Business and IS teams to obtain and understand business, functional and technical requirements
– Document detailed user experience specifications
– Design user interfaces by applying the fundamental principles of user experience design, research experience, industry best practices and balancing those against system constraints and business objectives – Create and revise user flows, sitemaps and low and high fidelity wireframes based on specifications, goals, needs and limitations
– Develop rapid interactional UX prototypes; verify design assumptions through concept and usability testing
– Lead design review sessions with project teams, acquiring consensus and approval on designs and documentation
– Create final visual mockups against wireframes, in keeping with Manulife brand standards, UX guidelines and accessibility legislation (AODA/WCAG)
– Provide final design assets and documentation to the development team; liaise to ensure final output matches UX specifications and visual design
Experience & Skills Required:
– Minimum 5 years experience as a user experience designer, user interface designer, or similar role
– 3+ years of experience working on complex web projects with medium to large-sized teams
– Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in UX design
– Bachelor's degree in design or a related field (communication arts, computer science, human-computer interaction (HCI), etc.)
– User-focussed and analytical; the ideal person for this role will have a deep understanding and appreciation of the process of identifying users needs, coupled with the ability to balance the pros and cons of different designs, backed by research and analytics
– Deep experience creating screen UI flows, low and high fidelity wireframes and prototypes
– Well versed in fundamental visual and interactive design disciplines & principles and user behavioural psychology
– Highly comfortable presenting and substantiating design decisions (in both formal and informal settings), based on industry best-practice guidelines, personal experience and research findings
– Excellent proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Axure, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), InVision, Visio, Mockingbird, OmniGraffle, and/or other software
– Previous experience with Agile design/development methodology preferred
– Fastidious attention to detail
– Strong communication skills across disciplines and the ability to effectively articulate experiential principles
– Experience in user research techniques (e.g. user interviews, usability tests, focus groups)
– Certification or working on certification from an industry-recognized user experience design institution preferred
– Understanding of web and mobile technologies; experience coding in HTML/CSS/JS an asset but not necessary
