Job Description
Senior Oracle Database Developer
Work Model: Hybrid (1–2 days/week onsite in Toronto, ON)
Role Type: Full-Time / Permanent
Project Overview
Join an enterprise database engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mission-critical financial applications. This role focuses primarily on hands-on database development (~80%), with ~20% focused on supporting data engineering initiatives including ELT pipelines and modern cloud data platforms. You will serve as a subject matter expert across concurrent projects to drive continuous performance tuning, architecture modernizations, and automated deployments.
Must-Have Qualifications
Core Oracle Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with Oracle 19c and/or 23ai environments.
Advanced PL/SQL Development: Proven ability to build, maintain, reverse-engineer, and optimize complex stored procedures, packages, functions, and triggers.
Performance Tuning & Diagnostics: Expertise in diagnosing and resolving performance bottlenecks (evaluating execution plans, indexing, CPU, memory, I/O optimization, and blocking issues).
Exadata Infrastructure: Direct experience working within Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC) environments.
Automation & Scripting: Strong proficiency with Bash scripting to automate key database and development tasks.
Database CI/CD & Deployment Automation: Experience with database deployment automation tools (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway, Redgate, or integrated CI/CD pipelines).
Data Engineering & ELT: Practical experience building ELT data pipelines and working with data integration/cloud tooling (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Talend, or similar platforms).
Data Modeling: Solid foundation in logical and physical schema design, relational database principles, and normalization standards.
Role Focus: Strong developer mindset with clear distinction from purely administrative/operational DBA tracks.
Nice-to-Have
Cloud infrastructure familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Microsoft Azure, or private cloud migrations.
Financial Services or FinTech domain background.
Candidate Profile Guidelines
Experience: Target range is 8–12 years, but this serves as a flexible guideline—strong technical execution and ownership are primary.
Core Strengths: Exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to manage competing priorities across projects, and strong collaborative communication.
