Job Description:
The Software Asset Management Analyst (SAM) will be responsible supporting the global software asset management process within the organization. The Software Asset Management Analysts is global in scope is dedicated to managing all infrastructure, end user, and data center software assets. The mandate for this exciting role will focus on the end-to-end lifecycle management of software assets from acquisition to retire.
The Software Asset Management Analyst will be an integral part of the IT Asset and Configuration Management Team. The analyst will ensure that critical software asset details are accurately discovered and populated in the asset registry and CMDB, and are effectively tracked, re-harvested, and all licensing terms and conditions are followed including covering end user, data center and virtual environments.
This role is key to Manulife’s digital transformation, including retooling and evolving the processes that manage our IT assets. The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager, Software Asset Management and will be accountable for establishing, redefining, managing, and rolling out our next generation IT Asset Management practices for all IT software on the ServiceNow Platform.
We are looking for a candidate with proven knowledge of technical and enterprise-scale SACM, CMDB and ITAM processes, and proven success in supporting transformational change. The candidate will be passionate, persistent and detail oriented with an ability to clearly articulate an objective view of the IT asset inventory, associated risks, and opportunities to enable business decision making.
This candidate will be responsible for:
• Planning, monitoring, recording, and tracking software assets to ensure compliance with available software standards, service agreements, and warranties
• Assisting in forming procurement strategies to optimize technology spend across the organization
• Defining software standards and evaluation criteria to aid in standardizing software and creating a software register
• Supporting the global organization as a Software Asset Management Subject Matter Expert
• Overseeing all software assets through each stage of the lifecycle
• Tracking software globally in end-user and hosted environments (Private and public cloud, and data center)
• Collaborating with multiple global stakeholders to improve, deliver, and support an international SAM framework with associated services, governance, and controls
• Initiating forensic investigations and reviews of software and software assets to uncover noncompliance, policy and process breaches, reduce risk, and remediate issues
• Contributing to the establishment and implementation of ITAM policies, processes and procedures for IT asset planning and compliance
• Demonstrating an overall understanding of cloud concepts, services, security, architecture, licensing, usage, and support INTERNAL
• Optimizing cost efficiencies in Azure Cloud, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Software Asset Management (SAM), and Software Asset Management (SAM) programs
• Resolve issues, discrepancies, and anomalies associated to discovery, reporting and tools
• Tracking compliance with ITAM asset tagging standards and other cutting edge ITAM technology solutions
• Generating monthly, ELP, Cloud, and SaaS allocation reports itemizing costs by business unit
• Knowledge of the ServiceNow platform, mainly SAM Pro and Ham Pro
• In-depth knowledge of sub capacity, per core and virtual licensing models and tools to manage contracts and entitlements
You bring:
• Minimum (5+) years of experience with IT software procurement, purchasing and/or asset management
• Strong knowledge of software and software asset life cycle management processes including planning, acquisition, deployment, monitoring, decommission, and disposal
• Strong knowledge utilizing and/or implementing asset management tools, including automated discovery configuration tools and processes (ServiceNow, SCCM, etc.)
• Knowledge of CMDB and ITIL concepts, particularly Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM), Common Services Data Model (CSDM), and IT Operations Management (ITOM) and IT Asset Management (ITAM)
• Skills in analyzing CMDB data to highlight anomalies and errors and to identify opportunities for improvement
• Experience working with configuration item (CI) owners to define remediation plans • Knowledge managing and promoting data quality, integrity, and security of ITAM and CMDB repositories
• Experience with internal Sourcing, IT Leadership, IT Project Management, and Legal to support software purchases and projects
• Decision making skills in the maintenance, automation, and integration of SAM and CMDB tools and supporting data sources (via inventory, discovery, procurement)
• Skills to nurture relationships with external vendors, resellers, and internal stakeholders including Accounting, Procurement, Legal, IT Service Management, and IT Platform Teams across Manulife/John Hancock
• IT Asset Manager certification (CSAM) and/or (CITAM) preferred
• Confident presentation and facilitation skills, strong interpersonal and leadership skills to enable engagement with senior management and stakeholders at all levels
• Experience collaborating successfully with geographically and culturally diverse cross-functional teams

The Hardware Asset Management Analyst will be an integral part of the IT Asset and Configuration Management Team. The analyst will ensure that critical hardware asset details are accurately discovered and populated in the CMDB/CMS, and are secure and risk free, maintaining peak operations and support including EOL while in service.
