Project Financial Analyst

Contract Length: 6 months
Location: WFH, Toronto

Story Behind the Need: The group at the bank is seeking a Project Financial Analyst to assist with an ongoing project. The individual would be given the task of helping to construct the model under which the project will be assessed over time. The candidate will be working on a mix of a number of large and small projects.

Typical Day in the Role:
• Managing and overseeing a number of project(s), including accruals, forecast, spend analysis, management of the Clarity PPM allocations and resource management for project add-ons
• Perform financial modeling, reporting, and analysis in support of project plans, monthly closing, and portfolio scenario simulations
• Exercise knowledge of overall business strategy and operations, including business processes, cost components, and drivers of these measures
• Provide important business information and support ad-hoc reports as directed
• Support creation of materials for various management reviews and meetings
• Create/drive the critical metrics for financial reporting on projects (examples: support cost reporting tools and earned value reports)
• Provide timely and accurate updates to the project manager as required
• Provide assistance with various/other projects when needed
• Ensures SLA’s are met for status updates, monthly and quarterly reports
• Communicate status updates and issues in a concise and timely manner to management
• Act as a catalyst for change and process improvement.
• Identify opportunities for process re-engineering and strategic growth

Must Have Skills/Requirements:
1) 3+ years of experience in a similar Finance or Accounting related role within a large FI
2) 2+ years of experience in a project delivery environment
3) Experience working on projects with budgets of 2MM+ – demonstrated in 1 recent project
4) 3+ years of experience in Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Clarity PPM
5) Understanding of Capitalization & Expense and benefits management – demonstrated in project work
• Trend analysis
• Political awareness, tact and diplomacy

Soft Skills:
– Confident to speak and present to Stakeholders, VPs and Directors
– Looking for someone that is hungry and eager to learn, someone that will go out of their way to find the answer rather than sitting around waiting for the answer to come to them
– Candidate must be a team player, that does not need to be micromanaged – wants someone who can get up and hit the ground running everyone morning without necessarily being told what to do
– Excellent communications skills to coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders across the organization
– Ability to manage assigned tasks and expectations without direct instruction or oversight
– Fast, adaptable learner who can hit the ground running
– Ability to work well under pressure while demonstrating strong professionalism
– Must be able to collaborate closely with a team at times, while also being capable of holding themselves accountable to meet individual deadlines without hand holding

Education and Certifications:
– Bachelor's degree in finance or Accounting or a Business Degree with a finance focus is required
– CPA designation is preferred but not required
