Java Developer – Kafka
Location Address: WFH (Toronto once BCP is lifted)

Story Behind the Need
• Business group: The GWRT, Regulatory and Compliance Technology group manages the global regulatory technology upgrades for the capital markets groups.
• Project: The team is working on an Platform Modernization Project (RPM). The group is rebuilding the infrastructure using messaged based microservices building a new application.
• Reason for request: Project
Candidate Value Proposition
• The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with multiple business lines Globally, while utilizing new technology (i.e. Elastic Search, Kafka, GPU)
Typical Day in Role
• Work closely with Business Analyst, Product Owner and other SMEs to interpret requirements and translate them to application solutions
• Ensure delivery of negotiated product/function while following standards and methodologies. This includes the design, development, and unit testing of solutions using Java/Scala/Python, Spring Boot, RESTful services and a variety of Microservices
• Design solutions, write codes, performs unit testing, develops appropriate artifacts/documentation, and facilitates final delivery
• Ensure the availability, performance, scalability and security of productions systems
• Liaises and solutions with third party vendors, to ensure the integration of their products/solutions meet our business and application requirements
• System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains
• Deploying, automating, maintaining and managing all stages of the technology product life cycle
• Collaboration as part of an Agile development team, participation in daily stand-ups, preparation of work estimates, identification of blocking and critical path steps
Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:
1) 5 + years development using Java
2) 5 + years’ development with Spring Boot
3) Minimum 1-2 recent projects exposure utilizing Kafka
4) 2+ years’ Recent experience with JSON and XML processing
Soft Skills:
– Great communication skills to work with various team members through development cycle
– Excellent team player with experience working in an Agile environment
– Strong organizational, excellent problem-solving, and communication skills.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
• Database development experience with SQL (MS SQL OR Sybase OR SQL Server OR PL/SQL) and NoSQL databases (ElasticSearch, Cassandra or similar) is a plus
• Experience with one of the following technologies: Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, Hadoop or S3, Camel, Elastic Search, JSON is a plus
• Power BI experience is an asset
• Previous Capital Markets experience would be an asset, although technical skills are what is critical for this role
Degrees or certifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Math, Finance, Computer science, Computer engineering or related field required
