Finance Analyst III

Position Title: Finance Analyst III
Duration: 9 months
Work Location: Toronto/Mississauga

DEPT. OVERVIEW:

The Finance Analyst is accountable for monthly management and performance reporting, financial analysis and assisting with forecasting and planning initiatives. The team’s mandate also includes providing value added reporting on project development – Portfolio impacting all various businesses supported by our Technology partners. We also assist our business partners with special projects including business case analysis and development of reporting metrics to monitor benefit/value realization.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position within the Technology finance group requires an action oriented leader with strong technical skills, good business acumen and demonstrated problem solving and influencing capabilities. The main focus of this leader will be to develop strong relationships with the businesses supported to deliver monthly/quarterly Management Reporting, Forecasting, Analysis and key performance metrics. The successful candidate is a self-starter who offers working solutions to business partners/peers/management with a focus on continuous process improvement, customer service and people development. The manager should be aware of the strategic goals of the business unit and assist in planning and execution of projects that align with these goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Build strong partnerships with Technology business partners and other Finance teams and be able to effectively communicate Technology strategies
– Be a valued business partner by providing monthly reporting and forecasting in an accurate and timely manner incorporating value-added commentary and analysis. Lead monthly results meetings interacting with senior finance and business management levels
– Understand and work towards a shared Finance vision and promote and foster a positive work environment that encourages productivity, professionalism and teamwork
– Work closely with the team on tasks related to software capitalization
– Partner with Fixed Assets and other groups to ensure software assets are properly interpreted and recorded in the balance sheet and P&L
– Provide technology portfolio reconciliation between the General Ledger, Oracle and Clarity systems
– Key contact for internal and external Auditors. Required to provide support and documentation for multiple audit engagements
– Support the CBDC and Wealth technology portfolio leaders on all elements of the Banks Software

1. Accounting Policy
– Own and Support Segment Capitalization and Amortization process end to end
– Own and Support EWE Technology reporting process end to end
– Prepare and provide EWE flashes, EWE reporting, waterfalls, A-node elemental views for plan and forecast load, FTE reporting, coordinating BD2 review calls, tracking over/under recovery position
– Own and Support Technology reporting for ESDS process end to end
– Prepare supply and demand bridge for forecast and plan cycles – connecting elemental P&L view to the business TCOT view
– Develop reporting to track financial and non-financial metrics against targets for numerous complex Canadian Banking initiatives (technology & non-technology).
– Provide thought leadership on data governance strategies to improve the management of data and ensure consistent use across businesses
– Develop and/or assess significant business cases / new initiatives applying expertise and ensuring criteria for own area are met (e.g., taxation, accounting practices, forecasted rates of return, evaluate outcomes, test assumptions, interface with others for appropriate input, identify benchmarks)
– Identify and understand challenges within the businesses and make value-added financial recommendations where appropriate

2. Other duties:
– Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities with a desire to provide coaching and career direction to team members
– Provide guidance to Analysts in the posting of entries, preparation of financial statements and review of queries
– Enhance activities and implement effective and innovative solutions, including automation, where there is an opportunity to gain efficiencies through process improvement
– Act as subject matter expert for own area and provide guidance/ advice and recommendations to support interactions with internal / external partners.
– Participate in ad hoc projects as required

MUST HAVE:
-5-7+ yrs Finance Analyst exp
-Superior communication skills – be a confident, transparent and concise communicator (verbal and written)
-Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent

NICE TO HAVE:
-CMA, CGA or MBA
-Exp. with Hyperion
-Exp. with Clarity
-Exp. with Oracle

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
– Strong leadership skills – lead by example, champion change and develop a highly motivated team to consistently meet and exceed expectations
– Teamwork/Relationship Management – ability to work effectively in teams as this role interfaces with a broad range of stakeholders
– Strong financial acumen with exceptional analytical skills – ability to quickly absorb information on a variety of complex issues (financial and non-financial) and provide insights on key issues and prepare presentations on findings
– Ability to work independently – project confidence and be able to perform deliverables with minimal oversight to determine where value can best be added
– Good judgment— ability to determine which issues to escalate vs. to resolve independently, and provide suggestions for possible resolution
