Job Description

Enterprise Data Steward Duration: 6-month contract Location: Calgary, AB About the Role We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Data Steward to bring structure, ownership, and quality to enterprise data across operational, planning, and analytical platforms. In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end data landscape, from operational source systems and integration pipelines through to planning, forecasting, and reporting platforms. You will identify data quality issues, investigate root causes, and implement sustainable solutions at the source. You will play a key role in establishing and implementing practical, enterprise-wide data governance practices, ensuring data standards are consistently followed across the organization. Working closely with Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Intelligence, and business stakeholders, you will connect data quality and governance initiatives to measurable business outcomes. What You'll Do Enterprise Data Landscape & Pipelines Map end-to-end data flows from operational source systems through integration pipelines to planning, forecasting, and reporting platforms. Identify systemic data issues and drive sustainable solutions at the source rather than relying on downstream workarounds. Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to document data lineage and movement across systems and applications. Identify opportunities to replace manually maintained spreadsheets with controlled, automated, and auditable data pipelines. Data Governance & Stewardship Design and implement an enterprise data governance framework, including standards, policies, roles, decision rights, and escalation processes. Define critical data elements, business definitions, and ownership responsibilities. Identify and support business data owners in establishing consistent data management practices. Establish and facilitate cross-functional data governance forums to prioritize issues and align on standards. Develop a governance roadmap with measurable outcomes and report progress to senior leadership. Maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata repositories. Master Data & Data Quality Establish consistent entity and alias mapping across systems to ensure customers, sites, locations, and products resolve to trusted records. Develop and maintain master data standards, including location and address accuracy. Define data quality rules and KPIs covering accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, timeliness, and uniqueness. Investigate and resolve data quality issues through root cause analysis and corrective action. Establish data-readiness standards for forecasting and optimization models, including historical data completeness, outlier management, and consistent hierarchies. Business Partnership & Compliance Assess the business impact of poor data quality and prioritize remediation based on operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, forecasting, service levels, and cost. Translate business requirements into practical governance policies, data definitions, and quality standards. Communicate data risks, governance gaps, and remediation progress to technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership. Ensure data management practices align with applicable security, privacy, and regulatory requirements. Support audits and compliance reviews related to enterprise data management. What You'll Need Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, data quality, master data management, or a related data-focused role. Proven experience designing and implementing a data governance framework or program across multiple systems or business units. Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand operational and planning processes and connect data challenges to business outcomes. Hands-on master data management experience across customer, location, or product domains, including entity resolution and cross-reference mapping. Strong SQL skills for data profiling, reconciliation, validation, and root cause analysis. Solid understanding of ETL processes, data integration, data warehouses, and enterprise data flows. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership and influence without direct authority. Preferred Qualifications Experience within supply chain, logistics, inventory planning, or energy distribution environments. Experience working with data supporting forecasting, optimization, or AI/ML models. Familiarity with operational or commodity management systems. Experience with geospatial and location data quality. Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, Snowflake, or Databricks. Experience with data governance and cataloguing tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, or Alation.
