Story Behind the Need
Business group: Global Sanctions and OFAC – part of AML functionality, under AML Risk, dealing specifically with Sanctions compliance.
Project: The role of the Sanctions Risk Assessment Senior Analyst is to assist the Senior Manager of Global Sanctions Risk Assessments with managing the Enterprise Sanctions Risk Assessment (ESRA) and the related functions. Assistance with tasks related to the development, coordination, execution, and publication of the ESRA and work with stakeholders across the various business lines and legal entities. Assists with coordinating and creating trainings, presentations, and metrics reports.

Typical Day in Role
• Assist the Senior Manager of Global Sanctions Risk Assessments by supporting all phases of the Sanctions risk assessment process, including planning, data gathering, analysis, and reporting
• Conduct the quantitative and qualitative assessment of sanctions risk, through assessment of its inherent risks and control environment in accordance with the Risk Assessment methodology
• Conduct reviews of risk assessment survey responses and hold follow-up sessions with stakeholders
• Understand and track issues through the Bank’s issues management process that apply to the ESRA
• Support the drafting of the ESRA Reports for each business line with input from business and control function stakeholder
• Assist with developing training materials to support and educate on the execution of the ESRA
• Develop presentations with results of the sanctions risk assessment to various committees and executive management of Scotiabank
• Assist in the preparation of periodic and ad hoc sanctions metrics reports for management
• Ensuring the maintenance of risk assessment work paper
• Identify opportunities to improve the Risk Assessment process and promote consistency in Risk Assessment practices, reporting processes for ongoing risk assessment activities
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:
1) 5+ years of experience with AML, Sanctions
2) 5+ years of experience in a regulatory compliance environment ideally in analytics, testing, or audit functions in a global bank
3) High level experience in MS Office Suite, specifically, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
4) Working knowledge of banking products and services offered by the Bank
Nice-To-Have Skills:
– Experience within a large Global bank is preferred
– Experience working with large scale data consolidation

Degrees or certifications:
– Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required
– CAMS is preferred
